The round spring ring does not snap back. It can be pushed back into locking position. It may need to be cleaned but also may need replacing, we don't know.
Here we have a single strand five gram gold filled watch chain. This watch chain or vest chain as some will call it and would have been worn around the 1930s and 40s.
