Unique Carved Shell Cameo of Athena
Unique, such a strong word. With that being said, what is so unique about this cameo brooch? For us, several things. The Minerva helmet is new to us, a carved face above a face that makes a two face cameo. It may not be unique to many, but is to us.
The roses, are they unique on a cameo, not really, but coming down from a cornucopia attached to a helmet with a face on it. Yes, very unique, to us and by now, should be to you as well.
What have here is a one of one, very unique cameo and we fell safe calling her Athena. Because of the light gray in color, we believe she's carved from oyster shell and from the 1940s to the middle of the 20th century. The metal is gold filled and she can be worn as a brooch or pendant.
