Victorian Bloodstone Cuff Buttons - 1880s Men's Jewelry
These are deep green and red flaked incised gemstones known as Bloodstone. There is a slight dent in the side of one of the buttons. They're set in Victorian rolled gold plate metal. The backs are marked with a patent date of 1880.
Along with aesthetics, bloodstone carried symbolism in the 19th century. It was associated with strength, courage, and protection, and was sometimes believed to have healing properties. That made bloodstone cufflinks meaningful to their wearer.
