Victorian Insurance Union Cuff Buttons - Ancient United Workmen 1881
When it comes to organizational old, these fit the bill. They hit different areas of collectability. Fraternal organizations, insurance organizations, cuff button collectors, Victorian jewelry collectors, and those that just like old items.
These do have a patent date of November 1881 on the back and although it's faint, we do know what these numbers are. The Ancient Order of United Workmen (AOUW) was founded by John Jordan Upchurch s in Meadville, Pennsylvania on October 27, 1868. With this information and the dating on the back, it's possible one of the upper echelon owned these and they were made exclusively for them.
- The tops are testing glass and have a slight gold enamel left in the incisions or intaglio cuts.
- The cuff buttons are dated on the back with 1881 Patent numbers
- The tops test as glass.
- They are set in rolled gold plate period metal.
Thank you -
